The U.S. Department of Justice has finalized new regulations under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which apply to all state and local government entities—including public colleges and universities. These changes are set to begin in April 2026. They are significant and will guide how our institution ensures accessibility for all members of our campus community.
Key Updates:
- Digital Accessibility: All websites, online platforms, course content, and instructional technology must be fully accessible to individuals with disabilities.
- Programs and Services: Accessibility must be integrated into all programs, activities, and services, whether in-person, online, or hybrid.
- Facilities: The updates reinforce accessibility requirements for physical spaces and event planning.
- Accountability: Stronger oversight and clearer compliance expectations have been established.
What This Means for Faculty & Staff:
- Instructional materials and digital resources will need to align with accessibility standards.
- Program and event planners are expected to incorporate accessibility considerations from the beginning of the planning stages.
- Additional training and support will be provided through the Center for Access and Assistive Technology, the Distance and Online Learning Department, and the Center for Professional Excellence.
